Prognosis |
In a CVA depends upon severity of the stroke. Lacunar infarcts usually recover within 4-6 weeks. The prognosis after cerebral infarctionis better than after a cerebral haemorrhage. Concomitant myocardial infarction occurs in 10% of ischaemic strokes (a nd may be missed if there is aphasia). Loss of consciousness after cerebral infarct implies a poorer prognosis than otherwise. Those with a cerebral infarct have a greater risk for further infarcts have a greater risk for further infarcts or myocardial infarction. Posterior circulation strokes have a higher acute mortality rate, but generally make abetter functional recovery than hemispheric strokes. |
